HAND-CODED
Generative systems, authored by hand for physical space.
AETHER artworks are built from custom-coded visual systems, then shaped into slow, seamless moving works for architectural display. No generative AI is used to create the artwork.
AETHER / ARCHITECTURAL CONTEXT
The term generative art can describe very different processes. At AETHER, it means rules, geometry, shaders, motion systems and image transformations written and tuned by the artist. The code is the medium through which the visual behaviour is constructed. The resulting work may evolve, drift, rotate, refract or transform, but the artistic decisions remain authored within the system itself.
This approach is especially suited to architectural display because movement, timing and repetition can be designed from the outset rather than added after a static image is finished.
Why hand-coded matters
Hand-coded systems make it possible to control how slowly a work changes, how it loops, how shapes interact and how the image behaves over long viewing periods. That control is central to AETHER's visual language. The goal is not infinite novelty but carefully structured motion that can coexist with interiors for hours at a time.
No generative AI in the artwork
AETHER distinguishes computational authorship from prompt-generated imagery. The artworks are not produced by asking a generative AI model to create images or video. Visual systems are built and manipulated through code, with source imagery and transformations selected and controlled as part of the artistic process. For collectors, designers and clients, this provides a clear account of how the work is made.
From code to architectural display
The final works are rendered as high-resolution seamless loops intended for professional screens. This allows computational art to leave the desktop and function as a spatial medium — from an intimate square display to a wide lobby wall. Licensing connects the authored artwork to the practical requirements of the installation.
